ABLE will provide an opportunity for students to participate in educational competition.
Students must sign up to participate in these events. We will do some of these each year. As we grow we will offer more.
Dates are posted on the events calendar.
Students are given a practice list of words to learn. Arrangements can be made for special needs children to allow them to participate. Just like any other spelling bee, students are eliminated when they misspell a word.
ABLE's geography fair provides students the opportunity to learn about fascinating places all over the world. Students
will create a presentation to describe the country, city, or state of their choosing. They will be encouraged to present geographical, cultural, and financial data on the area, as well as information of important historical significance, important people, missionaries and so on. Families will be invited to view the presentations, and awards will be given that emphasize the student's strengths.
Student's will choose a scientific principle to study. As with other science fairs, students will create a presentation to explain and/or demonstrate this principle. The will be expected to show how they have used the Scientific Method, or (if disproving a theory, or in the case of failed experiments) how the scientific method was not used properly (or where the failure occurred.). Families will view the presentations, and awards will be given.
Each week students will learn new vocabulary words from a listing of 4922 "SAT" words. At the end of the year students may sign up to participate in a vocabulary bee covering these words. Students will be given a definition and must state the word, or they are given a word to use in a sentence. All grades can participate (at parent's discretion) Students will be eliminated for incorrect answers.
In addition to these opportunities ABLE Students may also participate in:
